Before you apply...

We’ve provided some ‘helpful hints’ to guide you through completing your online application form. We’ve also provide an overview of what to expect during our assessment centre and how best to prepare for it. Simply click on the relevant heading below to reveal our ‘top tips’.

  • Why do we ask you to complete an application form?

The purpose of an application form is for you to tell us why you are perfect for the position and why we should invite you for an interview. When you apply for a position you are competing against a lot of other people so it is very important that your application makes a good impression and stands out from the other applications.

  • Is this the position for you?

The first thing you need to do is make sure that this is the position for you. So make sure that you understand what the position involves and what will be expected of you if successful in securing a position with Thomas Cook.

  • Before you complete the application form?

It is always a good idea to prepare a draft copy of your application form and then transfer the information onto the actual application form. So, as you are applying online, copy the questions onto paper.

  • Completing the application form in draft

Write your answers in clear, proper sentences. Do not use abbreviations, slang or text speak.

Make sure you answer all the questions and fill all the boxes. If the answer is not applicable for you, write 'N/A' next to the question. If you leave it blank, we may think you"ve missed this question.

If there are gaps in your education or employment history, say what you were doing during that time. Examples may include 'travelling around Europe', 'bringing up children' or 'working as a volunteer for charity'.

  • Check your answers

Once you have answered all of the questions, check your answers to make sure that you have answered the questions fully, and also check the whole application form for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Ask a friend or relative to check your application form for any errors in your spelling, grammar and punctuation. It is surprising what a fresh pair of eyes may pick out. Ask them what they think of your answers and whether you have answered the questions fully.

  • Completing the final application form

Once you are 100% happy with your application form you can transfer the information onto the proper application form. If you are applying online, be careful about typing errors and if you are completing a paper application ensure that you use a black ink pen.

  • Keep a copy

Keep a copy of your draft application form. Don’t arrive at the interview not remembering what you said.
